Needs Statement for Pilot and Right Seat Pilot (co-pilot) 

What are the problems that hobbyist pilots have that keep them from flying more often?

Mary the Pilot: Mary, a hobbyist pilot, needs to spend much less time on pre-flight planning so that she looks forward to flying, which is something she loves to do.

Well, an AI hologram and Magic are sadly not feasible at this time. The call center seemed impractical (plus the AI and Dan look related, which is weird), and the website, while great for pre-flight planning, isn’t portable. So, I chose… the app!

HOW THE APP WILL WORK:

The app will work much like doing the pre-flight planning manually–except that it will do the calculations for you. No slide rule needed, as a digital one will be built for the app. Weather data from weather satellites, (including wind speed,) will be available on the app for each location. The app will have a list of airports and the pilot will choose the airport they are leaving from and the destination airport. The app will calculate a flight plan based on weather and wind speed, or the pilot can manually enter their compass heading and the app will calculate wind drift and make course adjustments. The great thing about this app is that in-flight path adjustments can be made via the app on the fly (pun intended).

Unfortunately, it can’t solve the problem of small airfields shutting down, but it will make Mary’s pre-flight prep a whole lot less daunting, so she can look forward to what she loves to do–flying planes!
